Hello,
A new major public release of Web Polygraph is now available,
after a year-long stretch of private development snapshots.
http://www.web-polygraph.org/downloads/
Major features added in 2.8.0 version include:
- SSL/TLS (https) support, including CONNECT requests [1]
- HTTP Authentication support, including support for very
large user databases (e.g., via LDAP directory) and loadable
modules for custom authentication schemes (e.g., RADIUS) [2]
- IPv6 support [3]
- Automatic adjustment of offered load based on real-time
measurements, such as response time or throughput (aka
peakfinder or watchdog) [4]
- Persistent working set and ability to continue/resume tests [5]
- Support for checking decisions of URL- and content-based
filtering proxies to allow, deny, or modify content during
a performance test
- Better integrated, more detailed, and robust result reporter [6]
- GCC 3.2 support
Most of the new features are already well documented. Upgrading from
2.7.6 should not cause major problems as most workload defaults
remained the same. A few known exceptions or caveats are also
documented [7].
This release is of beta quality. However, it received considerable
amount of testing from many customers with access to development
snapshots. On one occasion, a head-to-head comparison of PolyMix-4
results produced with old and new versions showed no significant
differences.
Web Polygraph development would not have been possible if not for
support from Polygraph sponsors, including engineers and managers from
Network Appliance, Frontporch, WebWasher, and the Factory. Thank you!
Enjoy,
Alex.
