DNS & server selection?

I'm trying to figure out how much DNS traffic a Robot
will generate. According to:

http://www.web-polygraph.org/docs/userman/dns.html

"Robots send DNS queries just before opening a
connection to a server. At the time of writing, robots
do not cache DNS responses and use the first IP from
the response only."

So, if you had 100 robots and 1 server it is pretty
clear what would happen. It is less clear, however,
what would happen if you had 100 servers and 1 robot.
How does a robot determine which server to pick?

How long does a robot stay connected to a given
server? i.e. does the robot always try to stay until
its persistent connection is closed (by itself or the
server) or might it decide before that to start
getting content from a new server?

I've probably got 100 related questions, but let's
start there...

Thanks,

Andrew
